What is a power of attorney?

What is a power of attorney?

In legal terms, a Power of Attorney (POA) form is a document that allows a person or organization of your choosing to handle your shipment-related legal affairs when you are unavailable or unable to handle them yourself.

The person or organization you choose to give this responsibility is referred to as an "Attorney-in-Fact" or "Agent." The agent can have broad legal authority or limited authority to make legal decisions about the principal’s property and finance.

How Shippabo Helps with POA

The importing process requires a signature from the importer in several places. For example, you’re required to sign and submit paperwork when filing Customs entry paperwork and confirming a booking with your ocean carrier.

By signing the POA through our system, you allow Shippabo to sign and confirm these sorts of things for you. So you can take advantage of any special rates we procure and lower costs for customs filings. The best part: you can see everything in one place on your online dashboard.

Note: even though several different people in your company might be signing papers throughout the importing process, you only need to sign one POA form for your organization. For example, if Anna, Bob, and Candace all sign different forms for their business “ABC Importers Inc,” they only need to submit one Power of Attorney form for “ABC Importers Inc.”
