Vietnam Tariff: Current Status

Initial Tariff Announcement

On April 2, 2025 , US President Donald Trump announced a 46% reciprocal tariff on goods imported from Vietnam, aiming to address the US trade deficit with the Southeast Asian nation. To avoid this elevated tariff, Vietnam actively engaged in negotiations with the US, urging them to reconsider the tariff, leading to a temporary tariff suspension.

Tariff Suspension Announcement

On April 10, 2025, the reciprocal tariff rate for Vietnam was suspended until July 9, 2025. While as of the date of this article the 10% baseline tariff rate remains in effect for all countries - including Vietnam - the higher reciprocal rates (including the 46% rate for Vietnam) were temporarily paused. This means that imports from Vietnam will continue to be subject to the 10% baseline tariff, but the higher reciprocal rate will be reinstated on July 9, 2025.
